Toy plastic shield bears Gorey-esque warning from the future

Toy plastic shield bears Gorey-esque warning from the future: "

Jamin sez, 'This is the safety message stamped on a plastic shield we bought at Target.

I have to admit that I'm a little freaked out by it. It appears to be a warning FROM THE FUTURE!

It reads in part, 'The simulated protective device was not safety device and offered no protection.'

It's also sort of reminiscent of an Edward Gorey caption.'

This man is the president of our country: "
Honestly, it still boggles my mind when I realize this. And then it scares the shit out of me. Have fun with the photo, Cranktards.

UPDATE: Oops. Sorry. Posted this without the photo. Working drug-free this morning. Will run out and refresh supplies and be back badder than ever. Peace.

Fake Craigslist "everything must go" ad costs man pretty much everything

ooops

Fake Craigslist "everything must go" ad costs man pretty much everything: "Charles sez, 'This Oregon resident lost almost all of his possessions including his horse (which he got back) because someone posted a craigslist ad saying that he had to move suddenly and that everything at his house was up for grabs. When he returned home to confront the people looting his house, many of them refused to give the stuff back. They simply waved a print out of the craigslist ad in his face as if that was some sort of proof that they were in the right.'

Once home he was greeted by close to 30 people rummaging through his barn and front porch.

The trespassers, armed with printouts of the ad, tried to brush him off. 'They honestly thought that because it appeared on the Internet it was true,' Salisbury said. 'It boggles the mind.'

Jacksonville police and Jackson County sheriff's deputies arrived but by then several cars packed with Salisbury's property had fled.

He turned some license plate numbers over to police.

In honor of St Paddy's day, here's a classic Muppet sketch -- a rendition of 'Danny Boy,' performed by Animal, the Swedish Chef, and Beaker on the high notes. I nearly wept.

Thrill of looping: the latest ride of 1934

woo hoo

Thrill of looping: the latest ride of 1934: "From the June, 1934 issue of Modern Mechanix, this squib on a new carny ride that had debuted in LA, that supplied 'the thrills of looping.'

A car resembling the cockpit of a plane is supported on a hollow steel tube which pivots on a large ball bearing mechanism at the top of its steel frame.

The device is powered by a small electric motor which swings the car back and forth, gradually increasing the arc until enough momentum is developed to carry it over the top.

Restored Houdini movies features a fight with the first ever robot in a motion picture

I loved houdini as a kid and read everything i could get my hands on about him. Its great that he was in the first movie with a robot. Of course it must be true being on the internet.

Restored Houdini movies features a fight with the first ever robot in a motion picture: "

Dwiff sez, 'Great trailer for Kino's upcoming release of Houdini the Movie Star, restored editions of Harry Houdini's silent era action blockbusters - including a truly 'teh awesome' sequence from 'The Master Mystery' with Harry Houdini battling THE FIRST EVER ROBOT IN A MOTION PICTURE.'

Bomb squad detonates suspicious turnip: "Picture 7-32 The Fort Wayne Police Department bomb squad sent a robot to retrieve a cardboard box in the parking lot of a law office. They blew the box up, and found a turnip inside.

But the turnip doesn't look like it was hurt too badly, and I'm afraid it might rise up and attack us again. Please report any suspicious turnips to Homeland Security. Link (Thanks, zauberkuh!)

Free audiobook of Stross's Heinlein-meets-Wodehouse science fiction novella "Trunk and Disorderly"

Free audiobook of Stross's Heinlein-meets-Wodehouse science fiction novella "Trunk and Disorderly": "Subterranean Press has produced a free MP3 audiobook of Charlie Stross's comic science fiction novella 'Trunk and Disorderly.'

Charles Stross is damned funny, both in person and on the page. You’ll have to take my word on the first count. As to the second, here’s a P. G. Wodehouse meets Robert A. Heinlein as filtered through Mr. Stross’s sensibilities. In other words, it’s funny and indescribable as hell, and probably my favorite story this year.

Curious property of Prince Rupert's Drop glass

Curious property of Prince Rupert's Drop glass: "

If you drop molten glass into a bucket of water, it will solidify into what's called a 'Prince Rupert's Drop.' According to this Corning video, the surface of the drop is in a state of great compression, while the interior is in a state of great tension. You can squeeze the bulbous part of the drop with pliers or bang on it with a hammer to no avail. However, if you snap off the hair-thin tail at the end of the drop, it'll shatter into dust.
